It seems Melbourne, Australia has a Bon Jovi groupie cop or two. Music stars have been getting siren-wailing police escorts through the city that are totally unauthorized. The cop shop was already looking into an incident involving KD Lang this week and now it seems Bon Jovi has also been given the royal treatment without approval from authorities.

“Ozzfest 2008” will reportedly consist of 2 separate 2-day events, one of which will be in Dallas, Texas August 9-10. Word is Ozzy will headline one day, Metallica the other. No word yet on the 2nd venue.

John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics for “Give Peace a Chance” will hit Christie’s auction block in July. The lyrics are expected to retrieve between an estimated four and six hundred thousand dollars.

Country singer/guitarist Glen Campbell is following in the footsteps of artists like Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond by recording a new album designed to inspire a new generation of fans. "Meet Glen Campbell," due in stores on August 19, features covers of songs by the Foo Fighters, U2, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and others.

Scott Weiland has been sentenced to eight days in jail for his November DUI arrest. Weiland has until May 28th to serve the time.

Roger Waters performed at the Coachella music festival in California over the weekend…he performed Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. During the performance a giant inflatable pig floated above the stage. Now Coachella organizers are offering a $10,000 reward and four lifetime festival passes for the return of the two-story inflatable pig, which broke free and floated away during his set. MySpace is introducing MySpace Karaoke today, which will allow users to upload a recording of themselves singing along to any one of 3,000 songs

The New York Times reports that Vivid Entertainment plans to release what it says is a film from the vaults of classic rock: a sex film supposedly of Jimi Hendrix. The film shows a naked man who resembles Hendrix, wearing a bandanna in his Afro, having sex with two brunettes in a dimly lighted bedroom. His full face appears on screen for only a few seconds, with his eyes closed. In other portions there are flashes of his profile. But his hands, bedecked with rings, roam large on the screen at times. The film has no audio.

Bon Jovi fans were evacuated from Saturday’s concert in Sunrise Florida due to a bomb threat. After bomb-sniffing dogs were sent in, it was determined to be a hoax.

Metallica are considering releasing their 9th studio album online later this year; a bit ironic considering their lawsuit a few years back over online downloads.

Violet Hill is the name of the new Coldplay single from the new album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. The song will be available as a free download from their website at Coldplay dot com for one week starting tomorrow. The band is also planning a free concert in London on June 16 and New York on June 23. The new Coldplay CD will hit stores in North America on June 17^th.

Def Leppard fans will get a chance to see the group on some upcoming television appearances this week which happens to be the week of the release of their new album, Songs From The Sparkle Lounge. Tomorrow the band will be appearing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and will make an appearance on ‘The Ellen Degeneres Show’. On Wednesday they’ll make an appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’. Def Leppard has also released some new tour dates. Some recent shows had to be postponed due to an upper respiratory tract infection that had sidelined lead singer Joe Elliott. According to the “Sunday Times” annual ‘Rich List’ out this weekend, Paul McCartney is worth $1 billion, $200-million-more than his divorce hearing was told. Heather Mills must be pleased…

More Paul McCartney news: He has signed on to headline a free outdoor concert in Independence Square in Kiev. The so-called Independence Concert will take place June 14 and is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans. Of course he’s no stranger to big crowds, having played several massive outdoor gigs in recent years, including playing for 90,000 in Moscow's Red Square in 2003.

Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan has confirmed that he has recorded a guest appearance on the next album from his former GN'R band mate Izzy Stradlin.

John Lennon is in the news…a court case starting in Boston next week will decide the fate of film footage of the late Beatle smoking pot and discussing putting LSD in Richard Nixon’s tea. The case pits Yoko Ono against Lawrence Mass.-based World Wide Video.

The Grateful Dead’s version of spring-cleaning will benefit the University of California Santa Cruz, as the college will now house the band’s entire archives, including correspondence and memorabilia the Dead received while spending decades criss-crossing the world. The archives do not include the band’s thousands and thousands of bootleg recordings. Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart are expected to announce the partnership with the university today at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium.

Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan reluctantly accepted a low-grade honor in Hollywood on Wednesday, after revealing that he had spent a lot of time wondering whether it was "a silly thing." Corgan and band mate Jimmy Chamberlin placed their hands in wet cement for the Rockwalk, a shrine of sorts outside a music instrument shop. A hundred or so fans turned up, outnumbered by the media and assorted band hangers-on. Billy told the crowd "I'm so used to bad vibes, people hating our band and throwing things at us. So it's strange to be honored," "I had to think about it. I had to really lie in bed and think, 'Is this a good thing? Is this a silly thing?' I'm really honored. I'm really touched."

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora was officially charged with two counts of DUI stemming from a March 25 arrest. Sambora avoided a child endangerment charge, as his ten-year-old daughter was in the car when he was pulled over.

AC/DC have completed recording their new, Brendan O’Brien-produced CD in Vancouver and are now in the mixing and artwork stages, says singer Brian Johnson. The band hopes to unleash the new record later this year.

For the second year in a row, The Edge is putting his money where the music is. The U2 guitarist announced Wednesday he will donate two Gibson guitars and other items from his personal collection to the "Icons of Music" auction benefiting Music Rising, a charity The Edge co-founded to replace musical equipment lost or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Meanwhile, he and U2 have been recording in their native Ireland. A new album is taking shape, The Edge said, offering no hints about its sound or release date. "It won't be in the next few months," he said.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler will perform at the fourth annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert honoring legendary artist Alice Cooper and guitarist Slash. The event will be held on May 9 at The Music Box in Hollywood. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation. Alice Cooper will be honored as the recipient of the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication to and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process. Slash will be the recipient of the MusiCares From the Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization.

Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards owns some 3,000 guitars but only ever plays about 10 of them so he says he’s considering opening a museum to put the collection on display.

Stone Temple Pilots are reportedly releasing a DVD featuring their press conference performance, their first as a reunited band.

Nokia has announced its customers will receive twelve free months of music from Sony BMG artists. Unlike the deal Nokia struck with Universal, users would be able to keep all of the music downloaded once the free period ends.

Guns N' Roses is "in negotiations" for the release of its decade-in-the-making album "Chinese Democracy," according to a post on the band's Web site The message did not elaborate on the discussions, or offer a release date for "Chinese Democracy," which was last on Interscope's release schedule in March 2007. If the album sees the light of day, it will be the first release of new material since 1991's two "Use Your Illusion" albums.

After some time off to deal with medical problems that reportedly plagued guitarist Eddie Van Halen, the group took to the stage on April 17 in Reno Nevada. Reports from the show suggest that Eddie appeared to be in good shape and was running and jumping around on stage in his usual energetic style. Front man David Lee Roth was said to be quite happy about being back in front of a crowd and boldly proclaimed "Better late than never!" Two nights later, on April 19, the group rocked the Tiger Jam charity event at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Eddie Van Halen’s undisclosed medical problems caused the postponement of 17 shows, but since then, the group has added 20 new shows to the tour.

Def Leppard were forced to put their tour on hold recently and had to postpone shows in Canada as well as shows in Michigan that the band had hoped to perform. Lead singer Joe Elliott is said to be suffering from an upper respiratory tract infection.

On her website Amy Lee of Evanescence says she is NOT going to be collaborating with Metallica on their new album and has absolutely no idea where the rumour came from.

Velvet Revolver are planning to hold online auditions to find a replacement for front man Scott Weiland. Just a week after guitarist Slash suggested the band already had a singer in its sights, he’s revealed the group is creating a website for hopefuls.

Eric Burdon & War are performing together for the first time in 37 years, at London's Royal Albert Hall for 1 night only. The 2 acts collaborated on the 1970s albums “Eric Burdon Declares War” and “Black Man's Burdon”.

In a statement, Guns N’ Roses said guitarist Robin Finck’s decision to rejoin Nine Inch Nails caught the band “a bit off-guard,” adding the group is in negotiations to release Chinese Democracy.

With their new album due out later this year, Metallica is whetting their fans’ appetites with a new site called “Mission Metallica.” The band entices fans to “Experience the album… before it’s done.” The site will launch in May.

MTV announced that Rock Band will begin selling full album downloads. First up: Judas Priest’s Screaming for Vengeance on April 22nd.

Slash now admits he forced front man Scott Weiland to leave Velvet Revolver by deliberately ignoring him throughout their recent UK tour.

According to the Led Zeppelin rumor mill, the band is working with drum and bass group Pendulum to remix “Immigrant Song” for release this summer.

A Reno, NV man has filed a police report seeking back royalties from Sting for “Roxanne” and “Message in a Bottle.” Roy Smith claims he gave Sting the inspiration for the songs during a conversation the two had.

Billy Joel’s The Stranger will be re-released this summer, as two-CD set and as a two-CD/one-DVD bundle. Both versions will include the previously unreleased Live at Carnegie Hall 1977 and arrive in stores July 8th.

Bob Dylan has written a 40-page children’s book entitled “Forever Young”, geared to ages 3-and-up. It’s scheduled to be released in October.

Ozzy is confirmed to play the Monsters of Rock festival in Calgary on July 26^th.

Judas Priest will release their sixteenth album; a double-length entitled Nostradamus, on June 17th. The band’s first concept album will tell the story of the legendary sixteenth century prophet Michel de Nostradamus.

Bruce Springsteen has officially announced he is supporting US Presidential candidate Barak Obama. Bon Jovi is back in the news…there's said to be an internal fight at the Laguna Beach California Police Department, where the brass is pushing for child endangerment charges to be filed against Richie Sambora in connection with his March 26 DUI bust. His 10-year-old daughter, her 17-year-old cousin, and Richie's Girlfriend were also in the car when he was stopped.

Buckcherry are hoping for a summer release for the follow-up to 2006's platinum album “15”. With song writing almost finished, the plan is to hit the recording studio in May.

Jimmy Page says that, although it was recorded, there are currently no plans to release a CD and/or DVD from the Led Zeppelin December reunion concert at London’s O2 Arena.

Queen news…before being installed as Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University Yesterday, Queen guitarist Brian May confirmed that a sequel to the mega-hit musical “We Will Rock You” is being planned, and that Queen will release a new album later this year.

According to a Brazilian newspaper, some formation of Guns n’ Roses will perform live in the South American country later this year. Exact dates and locations have not been announced. The Brazilian tour plans are just the latest round of rumors surrounding Guns N Roses. The past month has seen Chinese Democracy supposedly being completed and handed off to the record companies, Rose on the verge of starring in a reality TV show, GNR signing with a top management team and Rose thanking Dr. Pepper for their support.

Rolling Stones – 64-year-old Keith Richards claims he’s been inundated with requests to donate his body to science when he dies because doctors want to examine his immune system.

It’s official, AC/DC is currently in the studio with producer Brendan O’Brien working on their first album in eight years. No word yet on when the album will be finished or released.

After months of dodging, Green Day finally admitted that they are the band the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Billie Joe Armstrong revealed that the band got its name from “a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night.”

Guitarist Ronnie Wood wants to reunite his old band Faces. He quit the band in the 1970s to become a Rolling Stone. His former band mates, including Rod Stewart, Kenney Jones, and Ronnie Lane, are said to be stoked on the idea.

In an online poll, fans have picked former Audioslave front man Chris Cornell as their favourite to replace Scott Weiland in Velvet Revolver. No word yet on who will get the gig.

American Idol gives back airs tonight with performances by Bono, Brad Pitt, Daughtry, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. Last year the event raised 76 million dollars for charity. They’re hoping to raise 100 million this year.

Elton John performs a solo concert fundraiser tonight for Hillary Clinton at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall. The event is called “Elton & Hillary: One Night Only”.

Geddy Lee of Rush will be lending his talents to a new Barenaked Ladies children’s CD. Entitled ‘Snack Time’ the disc is set to hit stores on May 6.

Vandals have beheaded a statue of Ringo Starr in Liverpool, England after he made negative remarks about his hometown in a TV interview.

And more Beatles news…Paul McCartney might be playing a show in Halifax this summer. Halifax concert promoter Harold McKay says he is 90 per cent sure the show will happen. Some members of Paul McCartney’s road crew paid a visit to Halifax recently to check out the concert site. If the show happens it will take place around the Canada Day long weekend.

Motley Crue Bassist Nikki Sixx has been named president of Eleven Seven Records, where he’ll oversee a roster that includes rockers Buckcherry.

Bob Dylan became the first rock musician to win a Pulitzer Prize when he was given an honorary award yesterday for his “profound impact on popular music and American culture.”

Genesis is returning to the big screen for the launch of its upcoming live DVD. The band will participate in a special Q&A session next month that will be beamed live via satellite into 20 Odeon cinemas across Britain. Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks will take questions from the audience, but will not perform. The on-screen event is expected to take place May 20, ahead of EMI's May 26 release of the DVD "When in Rome 2007," which captures the tour finale, a July 14 show that drew an estimated 500,000 fans to the Circus Maximus. The "When in Rome 2007" DVD digipak will contain a 28-page booklet and carry more than five hours of content on two concert discs and a documentary DVD.

The Stone Temple Pilots plan to record a new album after the tour which is set to wrap in November. The band will make its first national TV appearance since reuniting on the May 1 edition of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

For a recent MTV Australia show, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins requested a defibrillator and an ambulance in his rider. And the crew was not allowed to walk within his line of sight while he was playing.

U2’s new “U2 3-D” concert film is said to show details on IMAX screens you might otherwise miss ... such as what appears to be inch-and-a-half lifts on the bottom of Bono's boots. (Bono is 5’ 7”)

The 2008 Juno Awards are handed out Sunday night in Calgary. Performers include Avril Lavigne, Feist, Finger Eleven, and Michael Buble.

Guns and Roses update: Axl Rose is reportedly playing six new tracks from Chinese Democracy for music industry people leading to speculation that the release may come soon.

Speaking of new albums, Rush has revealed they plan to begin work on a new studio album next year. The Snakes and Arrows Live CD will be released on April 15. Later this year, a DVD will be available from the same show in Rotterdam where the material for the CD was recorded. The video footage was shot in HD.

Although there are no current plans for a Pink Floyd reunion, drummer Nick Mason certainly sounds like a willing participant and is hinting that it is only a matter of time. Saying that relations among the band members are currently "good," Mason says that he thinks it will simply take the right event to convince them to rejoin for a show. Sounding a bit like some of the comments we have heard coming from the Led Zeppelin camp lately, Mason says: "We’ve proved we can be successful as a band in our own right - there’s nothing else to prove." Mason says that the right event would likely be something for charity.

Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland has officially parted ways with the group and it doesn’t sound like a friendly split. A statement from the band says his ‘increasingly erratic on-stage behavior’ and ‘personal problems’ have forced them to move on.

The Who are planning to record a collection of vintage R&B covers, similar to the Motown and James Brown songs they performed early on in their career. Producer T Bone Burnett says right now they’re digging through lots of material and seeing what will work. They plan to begin recording in the fall in London. In other Who news, the band will perform on July 12th in Los Angeles for VH1’s Rock Honors.

Nickelback front man Chad Kroeger could face a fine and/or temporary driving ban MAY 1st when he’s sentenced for his conviction of DUI in a Surrey BC court.

The recently reunited Stone Temple Pilots will next week announce plans for a summer tour of more than 50 amphitheaters, sources said. The LA group has already confirmed a handful of festival dates, beginning with the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio. Further details about STP's tour will be announced during an April 7th news conference at the Harry Houdini Estate in Los Angeles. It is still unclear whether the band will record new material.

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has said that, despite recent reports of his band being in turmoil, they are not splitting up - although singer Scott Weiland may not be in the band for much longer. As previously reported Velvet Revolver's Scott Weiland and drummer Matt Sorum fell out after a recent gig in Glasgow, with Weiland suggesting that the band may never tour again. Since the bust-up, Slash has said that the band will record another album, but possibly without the singer.

Rush has moved the release of its Snakes And Arrows Live album to April 15. The record is the live version of their latest studio release, and it coincides with their 2008 tour dates which kick off April 11 in Puerto Rico of which have yet to include any Maritime dates.
